HIKING

Beginner course in Hiking

This course is for you who want to start hiking but feel that you do not really know how. Maybe you are afraid of what might happen if something does not go as planned or wonder how to do when everything you own gets wet? We are happy to accompany you on a first hike where we go through different techniques and approaches together to maximize your future experience!

Overall educational goals

  • The participant will learn basic navigation, first aid in terrain and methods for trip planning.

  • The participant will learn to use fire and cook food in a safe way.

  • The participant will learn to assess where and how to cross water, like a stream, in a safe way.

Course structure

Day 1 - We meet in central Kiruna, or at another agreed place. It can be e.g. Abisko or Nikkaluokta. The first thing we do is go through the equipment so that everyone has everything with them and distributes the common packing that the guide has with them, such as tents, kitchen and food. After the equipment check is completed, and hopefully okay, we will get to the starting point for our hike. Sometimes it is in the mountains and sometimes in the forest landscape, depending on what the guest wanted when they booked. When we then start walking, we immediately start navigating where the goal for the day is the first night camp.

Day 2-3 - Slowly we move forward in the landscape, felling lots with kilometers is not the goal. Instead, we often stop to discuss and do exercises on various themes such as. what happens if someone is injured or how do we cross this creek safely. The guest's thoughts and curiosity may control a large part of the content of the course in addition to the things that we think are absolutely most important to know.

Day 4 - We begin to move back towards civilization, meanwhile we try to summarize and summarize what we have learned. Hopefully you now feel that nature is not so dangerous anymore and that you have been given lots of tricks to be able to go out and hike yourself.
